Great expectations...until they fall short.
What the Expectation wave in emotional authority actually looks like—in real life.
We know we have to “wait for clarity” with emotional authority…
but no one tells you what that looks like in real life.
For me, one of my channels is centered around expectations.
And if I’m not mindful of what that emotion looks and feels like for me, I can get carried away by getting my hopes up—and it can feel like a rollercoaster of emotions.
And I’ve learned the hard way a time or many. 🤣
Going to networking events used to be a let-down. Not because of the event itself, but because I’d attach an expectation (“I’m going to get new clients!”)…
and when the expectation didn’t match the outcome, my hopes came crashing down.
“Well that sucked.”
After a million tries, I changed up my approach…
I decided to stop attaching outcomes—and just enjoy the networking event itself.
And the moment I stopped getting my hopes up, everything shifted.
I was calm—not borderline desperate—so I was able to connect with the right people, at the right time.
I was present.
In the moment.
Not thinking of all the different outcomes in my head.
This isn't about shutting down the excitement—I just stopped letting it run the show.
I went from thinking “I’m going to get some new clients!”, to “I’m just gonna go and have fun—whatever happens, happens.”
Sound familiar?
You walk into a networking event already counting new clients.
You show up to a blind date that doesn’t match the hype.
You launch something and it doesn’t perform the way you envisioned.
The event hasn’t even happened yet—and you’ve already decided how it’s going to go.
That’s not excitement. That’s expectations running the show.
And here’s the thing about expectations: they don’t leave room for what’s actually in front of you. You’re so busy reacting to the story in your head that you miss the real one unfolding.
The wave hasn’t settled. You can’t see clearly. So you can’t react, decide, or connect from a grounded place—you’re just managing the gap between what you hoped for and what showed up.
So how do you actually catch it before things go sideways?
For me, it was understanding the actual mechanics of my expectation wave itself—how it looks and feels in real time—and that clarity never lives in the moment. It comes after the emotions settle.
Which means the worst thing I can do is make a decision, form an opinion, or attach an outcome while I’m still in the thick of it. The hope, the excitement, the this is going to be amazing energy—that’s the wave. And it feels like clarity.
It’s not.
Once I understood that about myself, the dismal networking events made sense.
The “failed” launches that didn’t hit made sense.
Basically, all the past expectations of something that didn’t pan out made sense.
I wasn’t doing anything wrong. I was just deciding before I could actually see clearly.
That’s what Human Design mapped out for me. Not as a personality quiz or a magic wand—but as a pattern recognition tool. One that finally made my own wiring make sense after connecting the dots.
And I break it all down in the workshop.
